Letter: Evaluating health needs of Crawley

Thanks for attending the CCG Governing Body meeting and for the coverage afterwards.

We would like to clarify the headline (Two years for new West Green surgery, Crawley Observer, September 25) and first paragraph.

The strategic outline case is not to “create a doctors’ surgery for the residents of West Green” as stated in the article, but to look at the wider health needs of the population of the town, now and in the coming years, and to evaluate how services can best meet these needs.

We are not promising anything in the two year timeframe with regards to a new surgery provision in West Green. The timeframe refers to the delivery of the wider strategic plan for the town’s health services (including the needs of West Green residents). The two year timeframe for the next steps is dependent upon the options identified from the strategic outline case (in consultation with the public) and then the approval/authorisation of other bodies including NHS England and NHS property services.

It is also worth noting that within the new system, the ultimate decisions on the provision of primary care services (GP services) lies with NHS England Surrey and Sussex Area Team.
