I am delighted to see that Arun DC has managed to reduce its spending by £2m, and also at the targets for the cuts as listed, sad though it is that there have had to be staffing cuts.
There is, however, a glaring omission. Where are the cuts to councillors’ allowances and/or in the number of councillors?
Our elected representatives should lead from the front and take an immediate 10% + cut across the board, and agree to no further increases for, say, 2 years or until the economy picks up if later.
They should also look at reducing their numbers, thereby reducing the burden on the public purse even further. If MP’s can look to it, then so can Arun DC Councillors.
That would show responsible leadership. After all we are supposed to be all in it together aren’t we?
