Young footballers proved themselves on the ball when they came up with a novel way of working as a team - despite their match being called off on Saturday.
Roffey Robins Atletico Under 10s were due to play an away match at Plumpton, but the game was cancelled because of a waterlogged pitch. Instead, the team donned Santa hats and set about working together to pack bags for shoppers in Sainsbury’s Horsham store.
The event was organised by Emma Davidson, mum of Josh, and the team’s secretary. Twelve of the team, ably supported by their coaches and parents, took part. And generous shoppers contributed almost £600, all of which will be ploughed back into giving the team ‘the very best experiences as a football team,’ said manager Ricardo Moratalla.
Ricardo himself, helped by his daughter Elena, was dressed as Father Christmas and welcomed shoppers into the store. In the same way he encourages his team play in the Spanish style, he wished customers a Feliz Navidad. Ricardo said: “We know that as a team it is important to be part of the community, and it was great fun to get dressed up and help out shoppers.
“The generosity of people was wonderful and every penny received will go into helping create memories for the team.
“I’d particularly like to thank Emma Davidson for organising this opportunity and to thank everyone who donated and wish everybody a very merry Christmas on behalf of everyone at Roffey Robins Atletico”.
