Wisborough Green set to take off as hot air balloon festival returns

Wisborough Green is set to take off this weekend as the annual hot air balloon festival returns.

Around 25 hot air balloons will be flying high on Sunday September 6 at the village green in an effort to raise money for charity.

The day will start with a hot air balloon show followed by entertainment throughout the afternoon.

It will come to a close with sunset balloon rides for all those who have pre-purchased tickets and all the money raised from the rides and the afternoon will go to the Chestnut Tree Hospice.

The event has been run for the past 22 years by Brian Smith.

His company Airworks Worldwide have organised this years event with help of local organisations including Fishers Farm Adventure Park, Silvester Engineering limited, the Three Crowns pub and the Cricketers Arms.

In the past the fundraiser has had to be cancelled due to poor weather conditions but James Palmer, co-founder of Airwork Worldwide, said the forecast looked very encouraging for the weekend.

He said: “We have got several guys looking at the weather for the weekend and it is looking quite encouraging.

“We are really looking forward to it. We have had a great time putting it together.

“It is a great village effort and it really is a community event. It is the community really that are putting this on.”
