A Met Office report says that a swathe of gale force north to north-westerly winds, accompanied by a band of rain and snow, will move south across much of central and southern Britain tonight and Saturday.

Wind gusts of 50-60mph are likely, with a lower likelihood of 60-70mph gusts, perhaps most likely in exposed parts of east coastal England.

In any one area, the strongest winds will last for only a few hours, clearing last from south-eastern areas of England.

The ‘be aware’ warning is in place from around 9pm tonight up to 3pm tomorrow.

Sunday’s forecast is sunny intervals with temperatures near freezing.

However, the cold snap will pass and Sussex temperatures could be back in double figures by Tuesday (November 24).
