Police are guarding flats near Crawley town centre following a shooting last night (Thursday November 28).

Neighbours in the Nokes Court and Rampling Court area of the Commonwealth Drive development were shocked to hear about the attack which happened at about 9.30pm.

Police said a man was traced to a hospital last night to be treated for a firearms injury to his hand. It was believed to have been caused by a shotgun.

The injury will need specialist surgery.

A local man,38, and a 26-year old local woman were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm but have since been released without any further action.

A police spokesman said: “Enquiries are continuing to trace other people believed to have been present when the man was shot. The investigation is at an early stage and the full circumstances have not yet been established.

“Detectives would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who has any other information. In particular they seek information about a car, described as an old style silver or gold coloured Suzuki Swift, or similar type, which drove away from the scene immediately afterwards.”
