VIDEO Planned road closures for triathlon cause controversy

The Vachery Triathlon, due to be held on July 21, calls for road closures in several villages, and on the A29 between Clemsfold and Ockley.

Tim Neal of the Chequers Inn, Rowhook, explains how this will affect his business.

Event organisers came in for heavy criticism at a public meeting in Forest Green on Thursday April 11 evening.

Update: April 12.

Mark Davis, race director for the Vachery Triathlon, told the County Times: “We were somewhat surprised to hear the comments from Tim and Katie.

“We have met with them and spoken on the phone and as a result of that meeting we have been working hard with our partners to change the format of the race and ensure they were able to enjoy a normal days trading.

“In addition, we have worked with them to ensure that there is plenty of access for friends and families of the athletes to enjoy their business and have advertised it as a ‘designated cheer spot’.

“We look forward to working with them in the future and hope that they enjoy the extra trade that the extra custom will bring.”
