The video follows Jane Bosworth, a Senior Social Work Practitioner in the Worthing Community Team at West Sussex County Council, and shows her visiting a woman who has recently undergone back surgery to see if her care needs had changed.

She explains the daily challenges of the profession as well as the ‘most gratifying’ and ‘fulfilling’ parts of her job.

Jane said: “Being filmed was an opportunity to give people some insight into the role that social workers have within the community.

“When you see the positive effect that social can have in enabling and empowering people to achieve their maximum independence there is a great sense of achievement.

“Social work is an important and necessary job and although it can be challenging at times it is a profession that many find fulfilling.”

The video is the second part of the ‘Real social work: making the difference in West Sussex’ film series which last month featured 26-year-old Abby Lonsdale, a social worker in the learning disabilities team.

Peter Catchpole (Con, Holbrook), WSCC’s cabinet member for adult social care and health, said: “Our teams of social workers continually support some of the most vulnerable people in our society every day.

“Social work is a difficult and complex job but extremely rewarding, which Jane has done a brilliant job of highlighting in this video.”
