COUNCILLORS, planners and building contractors gathered at the new Fishersgate Centre on Monday to mark the completion of the £185,000 refurbishment.
The centre is due to fully re-open to the public on September 2 after 17 weeks of work, including the demolition of the dome and refurbishment of the east and west extensions.
The scheme, carried out by PH Beck Ltd, was funded from an insurance settlement topped up with £55,000 from Adur Council.
A new link building, replacing the dome, forms the main hall, with new kitchen and café area.
Fishersgate Vintage Festival takes a ‘trip into the past’ to mark the re-opening of the centre, in West Road.
The festival, on Saturday from 1pm to 10pm, features a parade and live entertainment.
Items of clothing that have been made at the centre will be showcased in the parade, at 2pm.
During the afternoon, there will be live bands, impersonators, jive dance demonstrations and ‘teach to jive’ sessions.
There will also be a community football competition, bouncy castle and rides, a barbecue and licensed bar.
The target date for the opening of the centre is September 2 and the festival, organised by Fishersgate Community Association, aims to thank the community for its support throughout the last 12 years or so.
