VIDEO: Bins and lamp posts taken away in Horsham

Bins, signs and lamp posts have been removed in Horsham town centre today (September 10).

Council workers were seen in West Street carrying the infrastructure away on the back of two trucks this afternoon.

Horsham District Council confirmed last Monday (September 2) the direction the £500,000 West Street Enhancement Project will take.

Key inspiration will be drawn from the Wealden woodland edge, where people would have gathered to trade horses, reflecting Horsham’s early history.

A ‘wave’ paving design will be adapted to create a horse theme, drawn from the name ‘Horse-ham’, and text in the paving will highlight items of historical interest.

Horseshoes will be in place to contribute the overall branding and way-finding in the street.

Feature lighting will highlight specific architecture in the town centre.

Hobart Paving Company has been selected as the contractor for the scheme and work is to start on the project last week.

Flower baskets and pots in West Street, Horsham were removed ahead of the imminent works in the town’s high street.

The hanging baskets will be replaced with a number of ‘trough’ planters.
