Police confirmed the driver of the Peugeot, a 57-year-old Worthing woman, was arrested on suspicion of drink and dangerous driving.

She sustained minor hand injuries in the collision, and was treated at Worthing Hospital.

The other driver was unhurt.

The road was cleared by police, and is now re-open, but will be closed again at some stage in order to remove the wreckage, and repair the sign on the island.

A short while later, at around 8.15am, another collision occurred near the Grove Lodge roundabout.

This involved a car and HGV, in Upper Brighton Road.

It is believed there were no injuries as a result of the collision.

Long delays have been experienced as a result of both incidents.
