UPDATE: Road re-opened after fatal crash

A road has re-opened after a fatal crash this morning (Monday January 11).

Emergency services were called to the A23 near Pyecombe services at around 4am.

Four vehicles including a blue Volkswagen, a black BMW, a black Mitsubishi and a blue Renault were involved in the collision.

A 21-year-old woman from Newhaven, who was driving the Renault, died at the scene. No other serious injuries were reported.

The northbound carriage was closed whilst recovery work took place and a diversion was set up via the A281.

The A23 was reopened at around 10.30am.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.

Sergeant Peter Verney said: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened just prior to the collision.

“Witnesses can email [email protected] or call 101 quoting Operation Entwine.”
