Tributes to stalwart of the theatre scene

A WELL-LOVED great-grandmother, heavily involved in Worthing theatre productions throughout her life, has recently died.

Doreen Norris, 92, formerly of Westlands, Ferring, leaves behind a daughter, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Doreen’s grandson, Stephen Wright, said: “She lived a long, happy and fulfilling life and she injected energy, laughter, enthusiasm and love into every day.”

Granddaughter, Tandy Roberts added: “She was a wonderful grandmother. She was there to spoil us, love us unconditionally and to stand up for us when our parents chastised us.”

In 2001, Doreen was presented with a Worthing Honour for her service to the community, after being nominated by actress, Caroline Lowe, who was an ex-drama student of hers.

From 1959 until 1980 Doreen was the producer of the Durrington Theatrical Society, which still runs today.

In 1980 she formed her own society, Doreen Norris Productions, where presenting well-known musicals, in addition to her own, to audiences at the pier pavillion, Worthing.
