Members of the Age UK Horsham District Horsham club for older people, based at the charity centre in Lavinia House, Dukes Square, expressed concerns about potential changes to the community transport buses on Friday November 2.

At the club, which benefits from inclusive and accessible facilities, Jeremy was treated by the members to afternoon tea.

Members discussed their concerns about potential changes for drivers of community transport buses, following a letter they sent to him on the topic.

Jeremy said: “I very much appreciate the huge value of these clubs for all participants.”

The session was well attended with most of the 30 members that met with Mr Quin able to attend thanks to the buses provided by Community Transport Sussex.

The service they provide is vital and without it many older people would not leave their homes.

Mr Quin reassured members the government are aware of the impact any changes could have and were working to avoid that.

He also heard concerns about buses and other services.

Members were also able to chat with him about how some of the changes to health care systems in recent years have made a difference to them.

He added: “It was a pleasure to talk to members about a wide variety of issues and to the students from Collyer’s who joined us.”

The group of young people from the College of Richard Collyer join the members every Friday afternoon as part of their BTEC studies.

The charity’s chief executive officer, Sonia Mangan said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Jeremy to Lavinia House last Friday, during our special 60th anniversary year.

“It was an opportunity for our club members to speak directly with the MP about matters that directly, and could drastically, affect them.

“After their discussions everyone enjoyed the wonderful afternoon tea laid on by our catering team!”

This year is very special for Age UK Horsham District as the current charity team of staff and volunteers, representing a charity that has been working locally and supporting thousands of older people to love later life, is celebrating their 60th anniversary.
