West Sussex County Council (WSCC) issued an apology last Thursday (September 19) after discovery of old abandoned pipes and a water tank underneath the carriageway meant extra help would be needed to complete the job which was originally due to be finished by Friday September 20.

A spokesperson for WSCC stated that work by contractors Balfour Beatty was taking place over the weekend to ensure completion.

The contractors will also control the temporary traffic lights manually, which have been in place since Monday September 9 at the Coach House roundabout, during peak hours to help ease the flow of traffic.

The also state that two new manholes need to be built in the road.

The spokesperson for WSCC added: “The County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused to motorists and residents by the roadworks.

Drivers are advised to allow for extra time on their journeys or seek an alternative route.”
