Tournament '˜terrific' start for year four footballers

A total of eight schools in the area took part, including Broadwater Manor in Worthing and Summerlea in Rustington.

The year-four pupils had a terrific afternoon of football, with matches staged in groups.

Shoreham College beat Cottesmore St Mary’s 5-0, just lost to Great Walstead 1-2 and had an exciting 0-0 draw against St Christopher’s, the competition’s eventual winners.

The Shoreham College team and Broadwater Manor, who both finished their groups in third place, then battled it out in the fifth and sixth place play-off.

Playing with confidence and pride, the Shoreham College team managed to put four goals past Broadwater to end the day in style, with a 4-0 victory.

John Shelley, Shoreham College coach, said it had been a terrific start to the year.

“The golden boot went to Marley Bigg, who topped the goal scoring with five goals from midfield,” he added.

“Bertie Frost was simply amazing in goal, he made some spectacular saves and was only beaten once in 40 minutes of play.”
