Top African musician at town's Black History event

Crawley's Black History foundation will be celebrating their fifth birthday at the Hawth Theatre with an evening of entertainment for the entire family on Saturday (October 19).

The headline act is the undisputed ‘King of Soukous’ and African music legend, Kanda Bongo-man, who will be performing with his full band. Kanda Bongo-man is notably the most prominent singer and dancer of the century in the history of African Music, revolutionising Congolese soukous music.

A variety of local artists and groups including the popular Ms Desire who returns for the third year running will be supporting Kanda. There will also be a Gumboot dancing performance by local children and performers.

CBHF Chairman, Terence Mutongerwa said: “I am so pleased to have such a talented and varied line up. It is going to be great fun for the whole family.

“I am sure everyone will be up out of their seats and really enjoying themselves. This is our fifth year and every year our events just get better and better. It is just amazing to be able to welcome Crawley’s diverse communities under one roof for a fantastic evening of entertainment. I personally cannot wait to see Kanda raise the roof.”

In addition to the entertainment Caribbean and African cuisine will be available. Also a number of artists will be displaying their wares throughout the Hawth.

The evening is just one of the many events taking place throughout Crawley during October, but this is going to be a very special event as it is the foundations 5th party and those lucky enough to arrive early will be able to indulge in a piece of the specially prepared birthday cake free of charge.
