Toddlers as young as three learn the viola

Kay Tucker, of Nelson Road, Horsham, started her company Stringbabies ten years ago and it has since gone nationwide.

She had always been interested in teaching young children as she was unhappy with the way that they were learning about music.

At first she taught children how to play the violin and the cello.

Since then, Kay has now opened her tuition up to children who want to learn the viola.

She said: “We normally start at three years old but we have had a child of two and a half.”

The 52-year-old is based in Horsham but has teachers all over the country and is even branching out to America.

She uses special sized instruments for the small children to use.

She said: “They are more readily available now than they were ten years ago.”

She makes the sessions different every time for the children and uses a special technique appropriate to their age.

The mother-of-two encourages the children to be creative and likes to get them singing along.
