Thorney Island soldiers mark Armistice Day

Soldiers from Thorney Island stood alongside veterans in a poignant ceremony to pay their respects to their fellow servicemen on Armistice Day.

Some 20 soldiers from 12 Regiment, Royal Artillery based at Thorney Island in Emsworth, arrived at The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH) yesterday to attend the Armistice Day ceremony at the War Memorial in Worthing.

The soldiers accompanied residents and representatives of QAHH, local dignitaries and local military associations, to attend the ceremony to honour those members of the armed forces who have been killed in conflict.

The Worthing-based Queen Alexandra Hospital Home, founded in 1919, is a national military charity which offers nursing and rehabilitation services to physically disabled ex-servicemen and women of any age.

Staff Sergeant Walker then presented QAHH Armed Forces Liaison Officer, Jackie Bulmer, with a plaque to commemorate the day.

Jackie said: “Armistice Day is such an important day in order to remember those we have lost in conflict since the First World War.

“We are very grateful to Major Reilly, SSgt Walker and their regiment for taking time to attend the Ceremony with us, and to visit the residents of QAHH.”
