Steyning Tea Rooms, in Steyning High Street, received the award last week and said they were ‘absolutely delighted’ with the achievement.

Kim Cook, owner of the cafe, said:“It is amazing. We are absolutely delighted.

“We didn’t even know that we had been nominated for it.

“We are absolutely over the moon. We would like to thank everyone that voted for us and all the staff for their hard work.”

The cafe have also won two Tripadvisor awards and were voted the third best restaurant in West Sussex on the site.

But all this success almost never happened after Kim admitted they bought the cafe by accident.

“We bought it by mistake,” she said. “We were looking into buying a house in the area and I fancied a cream tea.

“We Googled cream tea places in the area and saw this was for sale. We bought it and have never looked back since.”

The cafe offers a selection of food ranging from different jams and scones to their famous Sussex rarebit and of course tea and coffee.

Kim said: “We offer breakfast, brunches, lunches. Everything here is freshly made on the premises and not bought in like a lot of other places.

“We are famous for our homemade scones, people come here from far and wide for our rhubarb scones with home made rhubarb jam.”
