Success for village fete in 50th year

Local apple farming legend, John Nash, gave a lovely opening speech having seen two generations enjoy the pre-school and Anne Butterfield from Ye Olde Sun Inn in Plaistow chose the winning fancy dress outfits (1st – Otto Nash as Sesame Street’s Big Bird, 2nd - Frankie Peachey as Mary Poppins and 3rd - Ollie Russell as Spiderman).

There were plenty of amusements for all of the family with fairground rides, pony rides, an owl display, country dancing and a popular dog show.

Plus, the ‘Best In Show’ competitions were a great success with some amazing miniature gardens, lego constructions, flower displays and cakes.

The pre-school was also lucky to have the ‘Best Family Favourite Cake’ judged by The Great British Bake Off star, Miranda Gore Browne.

The Maypole Fete is the most important fundraiser of the year for Plaistow Pre-School.

This lively, community pre-school has played a crucial role at the heart of the village since it opened in 1966.

Led by Spirit FM’s ‘Teacher of the Year 2013’ - Carol Krol and assisted by a team of energetic and trusted staff, the pre-school has a uniquely caring atmosphere.

Plaistow Pre-School Chairman, Emma Thornhill commented: “We had such a great turnout for our fete this year and with people giving so generously, we look set to have raised over £4000. From all the hard work that everyone put into the day, we will be able to now invest more in the facilities and equipment at the pre-school, which is great news for the children.”
