Members of the Christ’s Hospital Model United Nations (MUN) society recently had the opportunity to meet with former American Vice President Al Gore.

Three Sixth Form students discussed international affairs with the Nobel Laureate during a drinks reception at Guildhall, London.

The meeting followed a speech that Vice President Gore delivered on how both capitalism and democracy need reform to address the world’s current environmental, social and economic challenges. T

he invited audience included policymakers, practitioners and thinkers in the field of global finance and economics.

Christ’s Hospitals attendance at the special event is one of many opportunities provided to students as a result of Christ’s Hospitals historic and unique links with the City of London.

Dr Alistair Goddard, Teacher of History at Christ’s Hospital, who accompanied the students, commented: “Vice President Gore’s engaging delivery inspired the students, while his stark message engendered much discussion on the train ride home.

“Young people are often dismissed as apathetic or uninterested in the world around them, but one of the tremendous things about CH students is their appetite for learning about global affairs and eagerness to challenge existing ideas,” he continued.

“To be able to meet with Mr Gore after the event was an extraordinary opportunity and one that they will not quickly forget!”
