Officers teamed-up with organisations including Worthing Churches Homeless Projects and Addaction, in Liverpool Gardens, on Tuesday, for a dedicated drop-in session for street drinkers and the public.

The session focused on working with the street drinking community – many of which are homeless – with representatives from the various organisations on hand to talk to them.

It was just one of several ongoing operations by Worthing Neighbourhood Policing Team, led by PC Marvin Lucas.

PC Lucas said: “We have never really promoted the work we do, but we have been taking a multi-agency approach to tackling the street drinking problem for a number of years.

“If we can get one or two people off the streets, and they get help with their issues, we can keep them out of the criminal justice system. That’s what events like the drop-in session are all about.”

The session was attended by a number of members of the street drinking community, and was the first to be held in Liverpool Gardens.
