Part of the Horsham town centre Christmas illuminations have been ‘knocked out’ by Storm Diana.

People took to social media to ask why part of the displays were switched on while others appeared broken.

Elements of the display were damaged by the high winds and heavy rain this week according to Horsham District Council.

This follows some elements being replaced in West Street and East Street on Tuesday night after they failed.

A council spokesman said: “After investigations into both power supply and light fittings, the Christmas lights contractor replaced the elements not working in West Street and East Street.

“Subsequently Storm Diana’s high winds and heavy rain yesterday have knocked out more elements of this year’s display.”

However the lights are now safe and awaiting repair work to restore them to their former glory.

The spokesman added: “[The failed elements] have been made safe pending work to restore the displays as soon as practically possible.”
