KICKING off the new season, Steyning Jazz Club presents The Phil Brown Swingtet tonight.
Based in and around south-west London and Surrey, the band’s mainstream-style draws material from a broad spectrum of bands from the 1930s to 1960s.
Colin Jilks, from Steyning Jazz Club, said: “This is a band that performs with an irresistible iridescent animation with Dixieland to swing and bebop to soul, exuding echoes of Ellington, Count Basie, Bix Beiderbeck and many more along the way.”
The line up is Phil Brown on trombone and vocals, Lester Brown on trumpet and flugel horn, Mark Aston on reeds, Andrew Clancy on piano, Mike Bennett on bass, and David Clancy on drums.
Doors open at 7.30pm. Members old and new are welcomed. There will be a chance to sign up and renew membership for the year, and enjoy a complementary glass of wine with Denis Cummings and the gang.
The bar will be open as normal. Further information from Mr Cummings on 01903 814017.
