Transition Town Worthing (TTW) is a grassroots sustainability group which advocates environmentally-friendly lifestyles and organises a range of initiatives across the town.

Southern Water has covered TTW’s insurance costs for the big beach clean and its other sustainability initiatives for the next three years and has also produced 100 hi-visibilty vests for people taking part in the beach clean to wear.

Barbara Shaw from TTW said: “It’s reassuring to have the backing of an important environmental organisation like Southern Water.

“The beach clean attracts around a hundred volunteers participating in a well organised scientific survey of coastal litter. With the help of Southern Water we now have the certainty of covering some essential overheads for the next three years, which as a voluntary group is a huge relief.”

The next beach clean is on September 20.
