Skydive distance increased following Facebook pledge

He was planning a tandem jump from 10,000ft to thank the hospice that has been supporting his father.

But last week, he decided to go even further for the cause, fulfilling a Facebook pledge to go the extra mile if enough people supported him.

Mark, of Holly Drive, explained: “I am trying to make it as big as I can. I have raised the bar from jumping 10,000ft to 15,000ft. I am trying my utmost to get as much support behind this as I can.”

He will carry out the skydive on Saturday, March 7, in aid of St Barnabas House hospice in Worthing.

“I am doing this as this charity is close to my heart,” explained Mark.

“My father, Adrian Burdfield, is battling through his third year of cancer. They are so good to him and this is a little thing I would like to give back.

“It is such a great charity and I am so keen to raise as much as I can for a great cause and for all the support and help they have given my father in the past 18 months.”

St Barnabas provides specialist palliative care for adults with advanced, progressive, life-limiting illnesses and support for their families.

Mark said the team had done a lot for his family and he wanted to give something back to the charity.

A target of £500 was originally set but Mark has already raised £430 raised through online and cash donations.

“Getting there,” he said. “I hope to smash my target and hopefully give more to such a good cause. Every penny counts.”

His partner, Ashleigh Rossetter, is behind him all the way.

She said: “Mark would like to go as far as possible for the charity as his dad is getting help from them. We would like to do our bit and raise as much money as possible back to say thank you for all their hard work they have done so far for the family.”
