Rotary clubs plans its first craft fair

There are already more than 20 tables sold from a maximum of 40 and it is hoped the rest will be snapped up, as the fair is raising money for Adur Special Needs Project.

The charity art and craft event, being run in partnership with Crafty Potter Craft Fairs, will be at the Shoreham Centre, Pond Road, Shoreham, on October 8.

Hilary Stirling has been organising Crafty Potter fairs in venues across West Sussex for ten years. She has been a Rotarian for 15 years and, having moved her home and studio to Shoreham Beach, recently joined the Shoreham and Southwick club.

She said: “I am delighted to bring my experience of art and craft fairs to Shoreham in aid of this very worthwhile charity.”

Adur Special Needs Project provides out-of-school respite care and Saturday play schemes for children aged five to 15 with special educational, additional support needs and physical disabilities.

Les Baker, the Rotary club’s press officer, said: “We are anxious to sell all 40 tables as we have decided to make this very worthwhile local charity the beneficiary of all the profits from this event. As usual for this type of charity, they are always in need of funds and this is something that our Rotary club is keen to help with.

“We selected an arts and craft fair as there seems to be a shortage of such events locally and we were lucky enough to have a new member, transferred from Littlehampton Rotary Club, who runs craft fairs, so we have persuaded Hilary to lead us with this project, we hope the first of many.”

People can purchase a table for £20 and use it to demonstrate, exhibit and sell their own art or craftwork.

East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton will open the fair at 10am on October 8. As well as the stalls, there will be a craft tombola.
