Patron Richard Durrant, well known internationally as an accomplished concert guitarist, has chosen Across the Universe for the annual film that launches the new club season.

Sandra Reeves, from the club, said: “In July 2012, Richard chose the wonderful BBC film, Ken Russell’s Elgar, and in 2013, the film chosen was Delius’ Song of Summer, both of which were captivating and extremely well received by a large audience.”

Richard will be at the Ropetackle on Wednesday, July 2, at 7.30pm to introduce the film.

Across the Universe was first released in 2007 in New York and has been described as beautiful, joyous, bold and visually enchanting.

Mrs Reeves added: “The Vietnam war and 34 Beatles songs form the backdrop for a film which is both a romance and drama and together with music, touches lightly on politics.”

The film was directed by Julie Taymor and was nominated for an Oscar, as well as many other awards.

Film club members and non-members are welcome to the special screening.

Tickets cost £5. Call 01273 464440 or email [email protected] to book.
