Scouting and guiding groups and many residents gathered for the annual act of remembrance and wreath laying at Churchill war memorial in Midhurst and at Petworth War Memorial.

At the service that followed at St Mary’s Church in Midhurst, led by Rev David Coote, poppies had been hung in a colourful display from the roof in tribute to those who gave their lives.

Later that evening, beacons were lit at locations across the country, including the Cowdray Polo lawns in Midhurst and at Rosemary Gardens in Petworth.

Petworth Town Band led a parade from the Royal British Legion Club in Grove Street to Rosemary Gardens to see the beacon lit by Lord Egremont at 7pm.
