Recession casualty

I WAS very disappointed to hear of the sudden closure of ‘Arundel House Restaurant and Rooms’ in Arundel at the weekend – sadly another casualty of our recessionary times.

Delicious food made with great passion and care coupled with impeccable service from Billy Lewis-Bowker, made this restaurant a wonderful place for a perfect lunch /dinner with friends and family.

The restaurant and rooms won many accolades and the highest rating possible from the AA and English Tourism Board.

All this said, the restaurant still could not weather the stormy economy.

I have to ask, could we, the local community have done more? Maybe if the Chamber of Commerce had a system for flagging up the businesses in our High Street that desperately need support could we have rallied round?

Billy graciously said that they are not alone and of course they aren’t - but I wish I had known and helped in some small way to keep such a great restaurant and part of our community alive.
