Ram raiders get away with £150,000 haul from Horsham jewellers

RAM RAIDERS struck at a Horsham jewellers on Thursday night, getting away with a haul worth an estimated £150,000.

Wakefields jewellers was targeted at midnight when half of the front window in West Street was smashed.

A blue Vauxhall Frontera 4x4, registation number L240 0TP was driven into one of the shop windows.

Police said that a man dressed in dark clothing was seen inside the front right side window, grabbing handfuls of jewellery which were put into a black holdall. Another man was waiting on a motorbike outside the Phones 4 U shop.

The man left the shop and ran to the bike, handing the driver the holdall. He then got on to the bike and made off towards Springfield Road.

DI Jo Banks, Horsham CID, said: "The police are appealing for anyone who knows where the Frontera has been since it was sold on January 2 . The man who bought the car is described as white, aged 19 to 25 years, about 6' tall with dark, short hair. We would be interested to hear from anyone who has seen the car in the last week."

Owner Graham Wakefield said he believed it was the eighth ram raid at the shop in 40 year.

He is now looking into putting security shutters outside the window as well as those already installed on the interior.
