Proud Mary aim to create a buzz

Promoter James Parramore believes great things could flow from the visit of the band Proud Mary to Worthing (The Jook House, Saturday, August 13).

“I believe that Worthing still has a reputation for being a quiet and a town where not much happens,” James said.

“Proud Mary are a Manchester band that was signed to Noel Gallagher’s record label. Noel actually produced and played on their first album in 2001. Since then they have supported the likes of Paul Weller, The Stereophonics, The Black Crowes, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, Blondie amongst many others.

“The guitarist and songwriter Paul Newsome is now based in LA and is writing with Robbie Williams on his next album. I really want to create a buzz around the town for this gig. Not for my own profit, but it will open the door for other credible acts to play in the town rather than the tribute bands that Worthing has been accustomed to.”

Paul started his career with Manchester band The Ya Yas who were touring buddies with a then unknown Oasis. They played their first London gigs together and continue their friendship until today. Newsome also played bass and lead guitar on The Happy Mondays’ 2007 album Unkle Dysfunktional.
