SOME properties in North Bersted have been evacuated by West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and are being directed to a district council rest centre due to the flooding.
Earlier today (Monday June 11) Arun District Council received its first calls about at 1.40am this morning, with reports that between 20 and 30 basement properties in South Terrace, Littlehampton, were flooding due to heavy rainfall.
All those affected were evacuated from their homes, and the council set up a rest centre, first at the Sports Dome and then at Littlehampton Swimming and Sports Centre.
Around 10 people stayed in the rest centre overnight.
All those affected have now been rehoused either by Arun’s Housing Officers contacting their insurance companies or finding them alternative bed and breakfast accommodation.
Some scheduled refuse collections may not be able to take place today due to the wet weather preventing access to some roads.
This is particularly the case in the Ferring and Findon areas.
Staff are working hard to ensure that no collection is missed and an update is expected later today.
