Opposition to 2,500 North of Horsham homes ‘very strong’ in Rusper

Rusper Parish Council organised the event to highlight Horsham District Council’s preferred strategy as well as its own alternate proposals, which would see industrial brownfield land within Horsham town developed for housing rather than greenfields.

Joan Frazer, chairman of the parish council, said they had people banging on the doors before 10am demonstrating the level of interest, and a steady stream of people through the village hall’s doors to view the display boards.

HDC’s draft plan, which is out for public consultation until October 11, contains provision for 2,500 homes and a new 500,000 sq ft business park north of the A264.

Proposals have led to a barrage of letters to the County Times in recent weeks, with residents packing out a North Horsham Parish Council meeting earlier this month.

One resident said: “It’s too much in too little an area. There are too many houses with too little facilities.”

George Sallows, a parish councillor, said that feeling in the village was ‘very strong’ and he had not spoken to a single person who was in favour of proposals.

He said if it went ahead the effect would be ‘disastrous’ since the road infrastructure would not be able to cope with the increased demand.
