Funding contribution for new Chichester parking zones

West Sussex County Council has already started work on altering road markings and signs in advance of the changes coming into effect later this year.

The new and extended CPZs follow work on a city-wide parking management plan.

 The county council funded the feasibility, design and consultation stages, costing around £135,000.

It has requested a contribution of £100,000 from Chichester District Council towards the physical implementation of the changes.

On Tuesday, CDC’s cabinet agreed to release the funding from its Community Infrastructure Levy.

The first phase is seeing new zones brought in at Donnington and Swanfield, with extensions to existing CPZs in Whyke, The Hornet and Little Breach.

Ongoing costs and enforcement will be covered by WSCC through income generated from the on-street parking.

Discussions are taking place about CDC managing the issue of permits and enforcement on the county council’s behalf.

Weather permitting the work is expected to be completed  by early May.
