Politics students enjoy MP's insightful lecture

Jeremy met with principal Sally Bromley and kindly took time out from his busy schedule to give an interesting and insightful lecture to Collyer’s students many of whom study law and government and politics.

Collyer’s vice principal, Steve Nicholls said: “Massive thanks to Esme Cairns, in her first year as a Collyer’s student, for helping to organise the visit.

“It was certainly a privilege for us to welcome Jeremy Quin to our college. The students clearly enjoyed the session and asked intelligent questions. I’m sure that Jeremy’s visit will inspire them to continue to take an active interest in politics.”

George Lear, subject leader for government and politics at Collyer’s was delighted: “Jeremy spoke on a range of topics from constitutional reform through to his opinion of the new Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn.”

Student Hannah Haines said: “It was a great session, really enjoyable. I was particularly fascinated to hear Jeremy’s insight into the House of Commons and the structure of government. It was also interesting to hear about how laws are passed.”

George Lear added: “Jeremy’s analysis of the constitutional crisis caused by the House of Lords rejecting a bill on tax credits was particularly helpful for first year politics students.”

Jeremy also clearly enjoyed the session: “Great to be back in Collyer’s for a forthright discussion on how our laws are made and how the constitution might be amended; great to see so many young people engaged in politics.”

Collyer’s principal, Sally Bromley said: “We are hugely grateful to Jeremy for giving up his time to speak to our government and politics students today.

“He dealt with searching questions about education funding and government policy in Syria as well as giving students an excellent overview of life as an MP.”
