Police lead special assemblies for pupils after boys stabbed near Emsworth

SCHOOLFRIENDS of the boys stabbed in a Havant road have been offered counselling to help them come to terms with the attack.

Special assemblies were held at their school this week led by Havant police to reassure pupils they were not at risk and to explain the nature of the incident.

The attacks happened close to the junction of Eastleigh Road and Southleigh Road, near Emsworth, on Friday afternoon (June 26) as the boys made their way home from school.

The victims are a 12 and 13-year-old and are being treated at Southampton General Hospital.

In order to support students the school drafted in additional counsellors and ensured pastoral teams were available to any students in distress.

The headteacher revealed a third pupil was also assaulted in the incident that left two boys with serious stab wounds.

The man accused of attempted murder after the attack was yesterday (June 29) remanded in custody by Portsmouth magistrates, who in order to prevent the identification of the boys, directed that the school could not be identified.

In a statement the school’s headteacher said: “Three students from our school were attacked and two were seriously injured by a lone male.

“Both boys are described as serious but stable by the medical teams caring for them. We are all hoping and praying that they both make a full and swift recovery from their injuries.

“In order to support all students we have drafted in additional counsellors and have ensured that our pastoral team are all available to any students in distress. The police are operating reassurance patrols around the school at the start and end of the days this week, the patrols are designed to offer reassurance and give members of the community the chance to talk to officers directly should they wish to.”
