Poem of the week World Book Day

'IT'S World Book Day,' the teacher said

“Please come in fancy dress

As your favourite character in a book

And let us all try to guess.”

The parents all just scratched their heads

What could the children be?

They searched through all their books at home

To find their favourite story.

Should they be ogres, witches or elves?

Modern heroes or traditional?

What kind of costume do they need?

Looking fun but also practical.

As they looked the children were lured

Into worlds of fantasy and fun.

The characters leapt out from the pages

And round in their heads they did run.

So make the most of World Book Day

Encourage your family’s wonder

Of the vast array of stories that exist

To make you laugh and ponder.
