Petworth's Secret Gardens open for charity

On Sunday, the owners of beautiful secret gardens in Petworth town centre threw their gates open in support of the charity.

From 2pm until 5.30pm, visitors enjoyed the town’s treasure trail of beauty and variety in and around the town centre.

Due to the variety of the gardens, there was something suitable for everyone’s tastes, whether visitors liked traditional or modern gardens, closed courtyards or sweeping vistas.

The experience offered guests a chance to discover Petworth and its beautiful history in the most intriguing and colourful way.

Anita Wolseley, organiser of the Secret Gardens of Petworth, said: “The British Red Cross are very happy to announce that we raised £3,500 and still counting. Over 600 visitors poured into our very special town and enjoyed 18 beautiful gardens which were opened by wonderful and brave garden owners. They produced the most inspiring possibilities for every variety of garden.”

The British Red Cross Open Gardens programme offers a rare opportunity to explore the secrets of hidden and private gardens not usually open to the public, with a spectacular list of gardens of all shapes and sizes throughout the UK.
