Worthing couple reunited for 61st wedding anniversary – and renew vows to celebrate

Philip and Christine Edney have lived in Worthing all their lives, Philip being born in the town in 1932 and Christine in 1940.

They met on a blind date and were married on March 26, 1960.

Philip was a builder and Christine had various jobs around bringing up their two children, working as a dinner lady at primary schools before retiring.

The Rev Ann Marie Lovejoy Bruce- Kerr, founder of the Lovejoy Centre in Worthing, carried out a wedding blessing at Windsor Rest Home on Friday and said it was ‘heartwarming’.

She added: “Health issues led to them being apart for eight months but they were reunited in time for their 61st wedding anniversary at Windsor Rest Home, who threw an amazing vintage-themed afternoon tea party.

“The couple had their marriage rings blessed to mark the occasion. They are enjoying their twilight years well cared for together.”

Philip and Christine have four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
