Alex Saunderson, 36, has spoken of her joy at finally seeing the mums she virtually met on her National Childbirth Trust (NCT) course today, March 29.

Alex, who gave birth to Annie five months ago, said: “To be able to meet up in person has been lovely. It’s been quite difficult in lockdown to have a baby.

“You haven’t had the visitors you haven’t had the support.”

Lockdown rules have now eased, allowing organised groups or clubs to meet outside.

The new mum, who said many of her relatives are yet to meet Annie due to strict lockdown rules, added that her NCT coursemates are like family.

The friends regularly WhatsApp and Zoom call each other to stay in touch despite being unable to meet until today.

Alex said: “We have supported each other since we were pregnant.

“We have all been there for each other like agony aunts.

“It’s just nice to have a friendly ear.

“These are some of my closest friends. [We have] just become really close.”
