Horsham wildlife charity organises Brighton-based badger cull protest this weekend

Organised by the South Downs Badger Protection Group and Horsham-based wildlife charity Care for the Wild, the event welcomes people of all ages to take part in a walk through the town centre.

Speakers, including leading anti-cull spokesperson Dominic Dyer from Care for the Wild, will discuss the cull which has recently been extended, and aimed to kill over 5000 badgers in Somerset and Gloucestershire.

Dominic Dyer said: “I’ve worked in the farming industry all my life, and this is the worst agricultural policy I’ve seen in 30 years. I’m sympathetic to farmers, but culling badgers simply won’t work. Ordinary people from around the country want to protest against this barbaric cull, and we’re looking forward to seeing many of them come to Brighton.”

East Sussex could be a target for the badger cull if it is rolled out next year, so interest in the issue is high.

Among those taking part in the march will be Brighton residents ‘Bodger and Badger’ – from the famous children’s TV show. Bodger – Andy Cunningham – has already recorded a one-off Bodger and Badger special in conjunction with Care for the Wild.

Dominic Dyer added: “The Environment Minister Owen Paterson recently explained the reason the cull was failing was because the badgers have moved the goalposts. But I’ve travelled around the country to events like this, and the British people are saying it’s time to blow the final whistle on this barbaric cull.”

The protest starts outside the Theatre Royal, New Road at 12 noon, before marching around the town centre.
