The call is from the charity Horsham Matters which is inviting people of all ages to join a virtual Safari Stride in the Serengeti, cycle along the Great Wall of China or climb Mount Everest as part of FitforFeb and MoveforMarch.

Those taking part in the six-week challenge can pick their activity and distance goal and will receive information about their chosen destination, postcards to mark their progress and a medal to mark their achievement.

Registration is £10 for individuals and £20 for families and the money raised from the event will be used across the charity’s work running Horsham Foodbank, relieving fuel poverty or helping the homeless when they are newly housed.

Horsham Matters has seen demand for its services rocket throughout the pandemic and has been operating a doorstep delivery service for day-to-day emergency food support.

In January alone the charity delivered 613 food parcels, compared with 258 in the same month the previous year.

Some 210 family foodbank food parcels were delivered for half-term for families struggling to make ends meet who were referred by local schools.

Community fundraiser Paula Daly said: “We really hope the Horsham district community get behind our fun fitness campaign.

“Anyone can take part – you can climb your stairs on a rainy day, get the kids outside for a fresh-air walk while racking up steps, or climb into the saddle and set your own cycling distance.

“Funds raised will go towards ensuring our valuable work continues as demand looks set to remain high even as lockdown eases.”
