Emergency crews rushed to a house in Billingshurst in the early hours of this morning when fire broke out in a bedroom of the terraced property.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus contained the fire - which was reported shortly before 2am - to stop it spreading from the house in Wicks Road.
A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two engines were sent to the scene, where a small fire was discovered in a bedroom.
“Crews were able to contain the fire and it was extinguished using two breathing apparatus and one high pressure hose reel.
“Emergency smoke alarms were fitted in the property, and close call procedures were carried out on neighbouring properties. We left at 5.09am.”
