Ranked 12th and improving on 32nd place from last year, it’s the only restaurant in Sussex to make the list which was published on Sunday October 19.

The restaurant, based near Lower Beeding, is only one of three in the South East to make the top 15, with only 11 from the region in total featuring within the top 100. Head chef Matt Gillan has also been named as one of the youngest chefs of the restaurants featured in the list.

Editor of The Sunday Times 100 Top Restaurants, Karen Robinson, said: “The Sunday Times 100 Top Restaurants is the definitive guide to the best places to eat in Britain.

“We carefully compile and analyse the reviews of thousands of diners to produce our top 100, so the chefs and restaurants that feature have truly earned their place.”

The list, which is compiled in association with Harden’s, is now in its fifth year and has been based on 70,000 reviews from more than 6,000 consumers.

Karen Robinson added: “It is very exciting to see the evolution of the list since The Sunday Times first published it in 2010 – this year has seen a marked increase in the number of restaurants outside London, a sign that we are becoming an increasingly sophisticated culinary nation.”
