Sweet day for pupils as they find golden tickets

Year 3 students at Kingslea Primary School found the answer to this when they recently visited Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe in Horsham.

This term the children have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and studying the history of chocolate.

To inspire their creative writing they visited the sweet shop owned by Joseph Crouch.

On arrival they all crowded into the shop and found a space on the floor. Joseph talked to them about the discovery of the cacao bean and then read the missing chapter from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – Miranda Piker and Spotty Powder.

Finally the children were each allowed to buy a chocolate bar, two of which contained hidden golden tickets.

Sean Hughes and Kyla Smith were the two lucky and delighted winners. They both received gift vouchers kindly donated by Mr Simms.

Deb Kemp, Year 3 teacher, commented: “The children loved their visit to Mr Simms and the descriptive writing that followed was superb.

“They are now busy writing their own chapters for Charlie and the Chocolate factory and we are very much looking forward to sharing these with each other.”
