Storrington Camera Club produced a giant-killing performance last Thursday to win this year’s competition for the prestigious Regnum Print Shield.

In a very strong field from ten photography clubs in the area Storrington won by a single point from Chichester Camera Club on the last image judged on the night.

The competition was hosted by Midhurst Camera Club and featured the usual tea and coffee in the interval with the innovation of home-made cakes from the membership – a hard act to follow. The judge was the highly respected David Eastley LRPS to whom many thanks are due for his perceptive and amusing comments and criticism.

The Storrington members whose prints were judged were Paul Hayward, Liz Barber, Daisy Kane ,Ian MacWhirter, Di Walker and Derek Grieve. Remarkably four of the six photographs received a perfect 20 score – and there were very few of those awarded.

The result depended on Derek Grieve’s Icelandic Landscape image shown above , 15 was needed to win the match. 16 it was and Storrington had pipped Chichester – a club with many times the membership – a notable triumph.

As Storrington Chairman Chris West remarked as he collected the trophy “This is a victory for our whole club, not just the 6 members representing us this evening. Standards of photography throughout our club have rocketed in the last couple of years and it is a great moment to compete with the much larger clubs and to win. It is an honour to collect this trophy on behalf of the club – even though my own contribution has only been to make the coffee at the print selection meeting!”
