To mark the opening of its 400th store, 800 Screwfix staff at each of its stores nationwide are riding a leg over an eight week period with a target to raise £100,000 for The Screwfix Foundation.

Ian, Huw and Ben covered the Horsham to Bognor Regis leg of the challenge, covering 32.5 miles before passing the baton over to Dave, who rode a further 5.2 miles to Chichester. Josh then took on the final leg to Havant, totalling 11.6 miles

Ben comments: “We/I enjoyed the challenge of ‘Tour De Screwfix’ especially with it being for such a worthwhile cause. It will be fantastic to see the final amount raised.”

The Screwfix Foundation is now calling out for charities in and around Horsham, Bognor Regis and Chichester to apply for a share of the funds raised by ‘Tour de Screwfix’.

Andrew Livingston, CEO of Screwfix, said: “We are extremely proud of all the staff at all of our 400 stores throughout the UK who are participating in this incredible challenge. It’s a fantastic achievement which is raising money to enable The Screwfix Foundation to continue its hard work in supporting well-deserving, local causes.”

The Screwfix 400th store cycle challenge started in Inverness on 13th April and will travel to every store in the UK, including those in Northern Ireland and heading to Yeovil which is home to Screwfix’s head office. 21 head office employees will then embark on the final leg of the journey, a massive 162 mile ride to the 400th store, Hinckley.

Andrew continues; “The challenge is also a great way to celebrate the launch of our 400th store in Hinckley, which is the latest addition in our nationwide store expansion programme. We will see a total of 60 brand new Screwfix stores in 2015 to give local tradesmen even better access to all the essentials they need, at a time and place that suits them.”

The Screwfix Foundation works with two national charity partners, Barnardo’s children’s charity and Macmillan Cancer Support, as well as lending a welcome helping hand to smaller, local registered charities, which are carrying out projects which involve fixing, maintaining or repairing buildings or facilities for those in need.
