Plaistow and Kirdford Primary School have enjoyed a very special week of learning to reignite their passion for reading and raise the profile of reading across the school.

Their Adventure in Reading started with the children coming to school dressed as their favourite book character, and learning in mixed age groups across the key stages with a series of sessions aimed at inspiring them in their reading, as well as developing their skills as readers.

The week continued with a performance of Treasure Island from a visiting theatre company, a ‘Bring a Book at Bedtime Pyjama Day’ and the Great Book Swap’. There was also a week long competition with all children invited to bring in a photo of themselves reading in a wonderful or unusual place.

Head Teacher, Charlie King said of the week: “Reading should be fun and it’s been fantastic to see such passion about books and reading amongst the children. The week has really captured everyone’s imagination and it’s great to see the children absorbed in their reading.”
